2010 Woodbridge Kart Club President's Message |
|
Presidents Message:
To start off I must tell all of you that have not heard yet, Bill Scott the illustrious owner of the Summit Point Motorsports complex passed away. The Woodbridge Kart Club has been the beneficiary of many of Bill’s visions in Motorsports and he will be missed dearly. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to Bill’s family and all those at SPR.
Moving on to club news. I must first extend a thousand thanks to Karen McCollum our outgoing President, and thank Karen as well as Joe and other members of their family for the years of service that have been dedicated to the club. Without your efforts the club would not have sustained its position as the premiere kart club in the country. Again thank you from all of the racers, members and friends who have come to know you personally or have benefited from your tireless effort.
Additional thanks have to go out to the prior members of the board of directors who have also provided direction this past year, a most difficult time.
Now on to 2010 our “Golden Anniversary” season, 50 years of the great kart racing. We will have another year of races at three different tracks located in the Mid-Atlantic region. Our year will start with our Novice School at AllSports GrandPrix on February 13, 2010, followed by our annual Swap Meet in Berryville VA. at the Clarke County Fairgrounds on Feb 27th.
Our racing season begins with a return trip to NJMP at the Thunderbolt track on March 27 & 28th. This will also be the site of our 2009 banquet and awards ceremony.
Thereafter will race at Summit Point on April 24 & 25, May 22 & 23 and July 10 & 11. This will also be WKC’s 40th Anniversary of racing at Summit Point. We are anticipating some of these races will be a co-sanctioned event’s with the Formula Car Series.
We will return to VIR for a WKA National RoadRace event on July 30, 31 & Aug. 1st.
The season wrap-up will be a unique event. On Sept. 17, 18 & 19, there will be a dual event at NJMP. WKC will be hosting another WKA National RoadRace event on the Lightning track while a WKA Manufacturers Cup event will be held concurrently on the F-1 kart track.
As we look forward to the 2010 season we must all realize that there are a number of volunteer and paid positions that are necessary to make each weekend a success. If you are inclined to help out in any way this coming season please give a board member a call or email letting them know of you willingness to help. And now as Christmas is upon us, from all of the members of the Board of Directors, we wish all of our racers, family and friends a Happy Holiday Season, and hope to see everyone back on the racetrack for our Golden Anniversary season. Tom Conlon
