SUMMIT POINT, W. Va. — After what feels like an eternity of waiting, American Kart Racing Association’s (AKRA) Hoosier Kartsport National Road Race Series season opener is now right around the corner — 10 days away as of this writing — set for May 20-22 at Summit Point Motorsports Park and hosted by the Woodbridge Kart Club.
This year’s annual spring Summit Point road race appears destined to match or surpass a terrific 400-plus entry count at the May 2021 version of the event, which was the biggest karting turnout at the West Virginia road racing complex in a number of years.
As of Friday, May 6, WKC officials are reporting nearly 100 drivers entered for the event comprising 402 race entries. The largest fields appear to be 4-Cycle Sprint 390, which is the Animal Nationals division, currently at 27 pre-entrants, Yamaha Pipe for laydown enduros at 21 pre-entrants and CIK LO206 Sprint currently sitting at 16 pre-entrants. Many other classes are shaping up to have solid starting fields and great competition.

Of course, this event includes the Animal Nationals presented by 4-Cycle Central and MGM Chassis for the 4-Cycle Sprint 390 division. A $5,000 purse is on the line for the race with the winner determined by best average finish between Saturday’s MGM Prelude to the Nationals and Sunday’s 4-Cycle Central Animal Nationals. Both contests are 30-minute, single-class races and $1,000 will go to the winner, $750 for P2, $450 for P3, $200 for P4 and $100 for P5.
In a creative twist to spread the purse through the field, five other randomly drawn numbers based on overall average finish between sixth place and last place will win payouts of equal denominations.
