MONROE, N.C. — With the start of the 2023 AKRA / Hoosier Kartsport National Road Race Series right around the corner — set for May 5-7 at the NC Center for Automotive Research (NCCAR) near Roanoke Rapids, N.C. — officials have opted to hold off on allowing the Tillotson 212RS engine to compete with the Briggs 206 in the Junior CIK 206 category.
Currently, there is not a developed slide to restrict the 212RS to keep the engine in line with the gold (part# 555741) slide-restricted Briggs 206 in the junior division.
Once standards are met for a 212RS restricted slide and it is available to the public, an official AKRA announcement will be posted, and it will give racers a 30-day notice as to when the 212RS will be legal in the CIK Junior 206 class.
The Tillotson 212RS is legal to run in CIK 206 Lite and CIK 206 Heavy for senior drivers age 15 and up.
Officials will monitor the 212RS engine’s performance compared to the 206 in senior divisions at NCCAR and future races, and will make weight adjustments, if needed.
