Animal Nationals payouts, starting lineup procedures announced

SUMMIT POINT, W. Va. — The May 20-22 season opener for the 2022 AKRA / Hoosier Kartsport National Road Race Series at Summit Point Motorsports Park is nearing. As we’ve been reporting all winter, for the second year in a row this event will feature the Animal Nationals presented by 4-Cycle Central for the 4-Cycle Sprint 390 division, easily the biggest race this classification in road race karting will see all year.

The 4-Cycle Central Animal Nationals will boast a $5,000 purse and the payout structure has now been finalized.

Animal Nationals Payouts:

  • 1st – $1000
  • 2nd – $750
  • 3rd – $450
  • 4th – $200
  • 5th – $100

And that’s only half of the purse!

Five other randomly drawn numbers based on overall Animal Nationals average finish will receive payouts of equal denominations.  For example, if the number 28 is drawn, the 28th-place average finisher over the two days will receive one of the denominations above! A driver could have bad luck and not finish both days and still have a chance of walking away with the same amount of money as the winner!

In order to be eligible for prize money, the driver must be present at the awards presentation at the podium outside of tech on Sunday afternoon. If you are not present and your position is drawn, it will be forfeited to another competitor.

The Animal Nationals points structure is as follows. Lowest total between Saturday and Sunday races wins. Tiebreaker determined by which driver has the better finish in Sunday’s race.

  • 1st Place: 1 point
  • 2nd Place: 2 points
  • 3rd Place: 3 points
  • 4th Place: 4 points
  • 5th Place: 5 points
  • and so on…

Starting Lineups

Starting lineups for Saturday’s MGM Chassis Prelude to the Animal Nationals will be determined by pre-registration receipt time (typical road racing procedure).

All pre-registered competitors will be inverted for the start of Sunday’s event.  If a driver enters Saturday and/or Sunday’s races at the track, he/she will start each day’s race in the order registered behind all pre-registered competitors.

For example, if 40 drivers pre-register, starting positions 1-40 on Saturday will be determined by pre-registration receipt.  Sunday’s lineup will be the inversion of those 40 competitors.  So, 40th starter Saturday will start 1st on Sunday.

Remember, the Animal Nationals champion is determined by the lowest sum of finishing positions for Saturday and Sunday. This method gives all pre-registered competitors an equal opportunity to make up and advance positions in each event.

We encourage EVERYONE to pre-register for this event, take advantage of the pricing, and for Animal drivers be a part of the invert!

Special awards and more details on the event trophy will be released in the coming weeks. There will be plenty more opportunities to earn prize money and merchandise.

On Friday afternoon, Animal drivers will participate in a four-wide parade and pace lap for a photo opportunity and sponsor appreciation salute.  This will take place after practice on Friday afternoon and drivers are expected to participate.  Details will be announced on Friday morning.
