WKC Board Addresses On-Track Driving Etiquette

The Board of Directors (BOD) of the Woodbridge Kart Club would like to take a minute to thank our members and competitors for their support during our first two races at Summit Point Motorsports Park. Albeit under some very unusual circumstances, our club has boasted some great numbers and excellent class sizes. With that being said, the BOD wishes to address some on-track issues that have arisen in the very popular CIK LO206 class. There were numerous on-track incidents during the weekend of August 22-23, 2020, and as a result, several drivers were disqualified for their actions. These actions include, but are not limited to, pushing, blocking, lane changes when a spot is not there, and others.

The BOD would kindly ask that all drivers in every category familiarize themselves with Sections 106.2 and subsections 106.2.1 and 106.2.2 as well as Section 363.11 of the 2020 WKA Tech Manual. The spirit and intent of sportsmanlike driving is to compete without touching or endangering the vehicles of fellow drivers. It clearly defines unsportsmanlike driving as bumping, crowding, chopping, blocking or pushing other karts. Unsafe driving includes the demonstration of poor driving skill or judgement and violation of on-track procedures or regulations. This also includes maneuvers liable to hinder other drivers, such as more than one change of direction to defend a position, deliberate crowding of karts beyond the edge of the track, or any other dangerous change of direction.

Consequences for any competitor that demonstrates unsafe driving at any time may be disqualified and is subject to further penalties including, but not limited to, suspension. The top priority of the Woodbridge Kart Club has been and always will be to provide the safest form of road racing in the country. The BOD and track officials will continue to do everything in their power to see that this happens. The intent of this release is to let you know of the BOD’s commitment to providing a safe racing environment, and those that are in violation of the above stated rules will be disqualified and repeat offenders will receive harsher consequences.

The CIK LO206 class is the largest and most competitive class of the weekend. It continues to grow and the BOD anticipates that it will continue to do so. We hope that you will all join us in our commitment to you, the competitor, to uphold the standards outlined in the technical manual. Our colleagues in racing from both WKA and AKRA have promised to stand with us and will enforce these regulations as well.

As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Board of Directors via email at bod@woodbridgekartclub.com. We appreciate your time to read this over and the aforementioned rules. Most importantly, we certainly appreciate your choice to race with the Woodbridge Kart Club. We look forward to seeing you at the track soon!
