SUMMIT POINT, W. Va. — A long offseason is about to come to a close for the AKRA / Hoosier Kartsport National Road Race Series with the Woodbridge Kart Club-hosted annual spring Summit Point Nationals featuring the Animal Nationals set for this weekend at Summit Point Motorsports Park in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia.
WKC officials are reporting 125 drivers signed up for Friday practice making up more than 400 race entries between Saturday and Sunday’s race groups. After gates open at 6pm Thursday, at-track entrants may very well push the overall race entry total to over 500.
While we don’t have statistics available from past decades, officials believe this event will likely be the best turnout for a kart race at Summit Point in approximately 20 years.
As expected, the largest classes look to be 4-Cycle Sprint 390 (Animal Nationals), CIK 206 Senior and Yamaha Pipe for laydown enduros. Over 30 karts are expected to take the green in each of those divisions both Saturday and Sunday.
A number of other classes are shaping up to have very competitive starting fields in the junior and senior ranks, including 100cc Air Cooled TaG, CIK 125 TaG, Piston Port Sprint, CIK 206 Heavy, 4-Cycle Sprint 370 and the Cadets.
Current updated pre-entry list posted HERE.
In appreciation to the racers, WKC is hosting a catered pit party Saturday night with live entertainment and raffles for prizes.
The event includes the Animal Nationals presented by 4-Cycle Central and MGM Chassis for the 4-Cycle Sprint 390 division. A $5,000 purse is on the line for the race with the winner determined by best average finish between Saturday’s MGM Prelude to the Nationals and Sunday’s 4-Cycle Central Animal Nationals. Both contests are 30-minute, single-class races and $1,000 will go to the winner, $750 for P2, $450 for P3, $200 for P4 and $100 for P5.
In a creative twist to spread the purse through the field, five other randomly drawn numbers based on overall average finish between sixth place and last place will win payouts of equal denominations.
